Description

Restoration of the paintings of the vault, lunettes, frieze, and Bernini curtains

Aula Secunda

In March 2024, the cleaning of the frieze in the hall was completed, while work on the vault proceeded on the pictorial reintegration. As of today, in June 2024, the work on the vault is complete and the retouching of the frieze below is also being completed.

The beautiful landscapes painted in the false frames of the frieze have regained their correct hues, and the reintegration work has made it possible to recreate the continuity of the pictorial fabric where it had been compromised by gaps, abrasions, and remakes from later periods.

These, in particular, in the areas where the original painting no longer existed, such as in the case of the upper part of the allegorical female figures interposed between the landscapes, have been maintained and chromatically connected to the original. The reintegration work is nearing completion and will be finished in July, while surveys for technical documentation will continue, followed by a general overhaul of all surfaces.
