THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST BY PERUGINO
Dear Members of the New York Chapter,
If you are fortunate enough to be going to Rome this summer, you will have the rare opportunity to see the stunning Perugino painting of the Resurrection of Christ that usually hangs in the Pope’s private library. For a limited time, in Celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the death of Pietro do Cristoforo Vannucci, known as Perugino (c. 1450-1523), it will be on display in the Pinacoteca in the Vatican Museums. Please see the attached presentation from the Vatican PAVM Office.
Some long-time Patrons may recall that Patti and Tony McLaughlin of the New York Chapter, funded the restoration of this work over 20 years ago. They still delight in seeing the painting in the background when pictures of the Pope greeting world leaders and dignitaries appear in the news media. Please see the attached photograph of the McLaughlins in the Restoration Labs next to the painting taken on a New York Chapter Patrons trip in April 2002.
Perugino’s Resurrection of Christ will be on display at the Vatican Museums until September 15. The work will then be returned to the Pope’s private library and seen only by those granted a private audience with His Holiness.
May you have a wonderful summer.
Respectfully,
Donna M. D’Urso
President of the New York Chapter
of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums
